The Regional House of Representatives of The Province of East Java held a special plenary session on Friday (8/15/2025).

The meeting was held with the agenda of listening to the State Address delivered by President Prabowo Subianto in commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

Members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) attended the session, including East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. The Chairman of the East Java DPRD, Musyafak Rouf, directly led the proceedings of this special plenary session.

On this occasion, Musyafak Rouf conveyed several key points, including a message from the Proclaimer, who was also the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno.

Musyafak emphasized that the spirit of independence must serve as a driving force to keep working, creating, and innovating.

“As Bung Karno once said: A great nation is one that honors the services of its heroes. Honoring heroes is not merely by remembering their struggle, but also by filling the era of independence with development that benefits all people,” said Musyafak.

The politician from the Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKB) explained that the independence achieved eighty years ago was not gained easily. He stated that the long history of this nation is marked by sacrifice, blood, tears, and the fighting spirit of the heroes and freedom fighters whose legacy must be remembered and emulated."

Eighty years of Indonesian independence is a moment of reflection for all of us to evaluate how far we have filled this independence with development with just, sustainable, and people oriented development. It is also the right time to strengthen our commitment to the spirit of nationalism, unity, and social justice," he explained.

This year, the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia carries the theme of United, Sovereign, Advanced Indonesia, Prosperous People.

Musyafak believes that this theme holds profound message.

“United means that all components of the nation must preserve unity and integrity, because only through unity can we overcome the challenges of the times,” he said.

As for sovereign, he continued, it signifies that the Indonesian nation has the right and ability to determine its own future, safeguard its natural resources, and protect national interests from various threats.

Meanwhile Advanced Indonesia reflects the determination to build a nation with high competitiveness, technologically advanced, and progressive in education.

Prosperous people represents the ultimate goal of achieving equitable, just, and sustainable welfare development for all Indonesians,” he explained.

In relation to this, Musyafak further highlighted that East Java plays a strategic role in realizing this grand national theme. Moreover, East Java has the second largest population in Indonesia.

“The wealth of natural resources and the vast economic potential of East Java make it one of the key pillars supporting the resilience of the national economy,” he concluded.
