Satib Urges Immediate Clean Water Assistance for Residents of Jember

SURABAYA — The threat of drought during the dry season is expanding across several parts of East Java Province. One of the affected areas is Jember Regency, which has officially declared an emergency preparedness status to mitigate the impacts of prolonged dry weather.

Responding to the situation, Satib, a member of Commission D of the East Java DPRD, urged the East Java Provincial Government to promptly deliver clean water assistance to communities in Jember and other drought-affected areas.

“Maximum synergy between the Provincial Government and the Jember Regency Government is essential to ensure the provision of clean water for residents,” he said.

Clean Water Shortage Begins to Affect Local Communities

The Gerindra Party legislator stated that, based on information he had received, at least 125 households in Bunder, Sumberpinang, Pakusari District, have begun experiencing serious difficulties in accessing clean water.

The shortage has been caused by declining groundwater levels in community wells. In several locations, wells are producing only muddy and murky water, making them unsuitable for daily household use.

“According to the information we have received, local residents are beginning to experience a clean water crisis. This situation requires immediate intervention,” Satib said on Wednesday (08/07/2026).

He added that information from the Jember Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) indicated that an alternative drilled well is available approximately 600 meters from the affected residential area. However, the facility cannot yet be utilized because it has not been connected to electricity or a water distribution pipeline serving nearby households.

DPRD Calls for Immediate Emergency Response

Seeing this situation, Satib urged the East Java Provincial Government to coordinate an immediate emergency response by supplying clean water to affected communities.

“Under these circumstances, the people of Jember are facing a clean water crisis. Therefore, I urge the East Java Provincial Government to immediately deliver clean water assistance because the community urgently needs it,” he emphasized.

Previously, the Jember Regency Government officially declared an emergency preparedness status for drought, forest fires, and land fires through Regent Decree No. 100.3.3.2/206/1.12/2026, as part of its efforts to anticipate and mitigate the impacts of this year's dry season.
